Book ordering

Ordering Service

If you would like a book that we don’t have in stock or is currently out of print, you can order it in person at the bookshop, or by calling 01478 612585. Or, you can email orders to us using the form above.

For books that are out of print we will endeavour to source that for you and will always advice you of the price and condition of the book prior to placing your order. Unless we have given a false description of the book, we cannot accept returns for out of print titles and may ask for payment in advance, if the value is above £30.00 for any individual item.

We will contact you when your order arrives and you can either collect from the bookshop, or we can post it to you for a fee (for example this would be around £2.00 for a single paperback book such as novels, posted to the UK).

You can also order and pay for books via our on-line shop with options for PayPal, Debit or Credit card. See below for payment by Gift Voucher or National Book Tokens.

We apologise that we cannot offer credit terms but can accept Purchase Orders from public bodies such as schools, universities and colleges.

Gift Vouchers and National Book Tokens

If you’d like to buy a gift for someone, but don’t know which book to choose, we offer both National Book Tokens and Carmina Gadelica Gift Vouchers. These can be for any amount you wish, and we can also post them out to you, or to your chosen recipient.

You may also wish to pay for a book using a Gift Voucher or National Book Token but not be able to visit the shop. In that situation you can phone the shop and we can take your Gift Voucher or National Book Token, as payment. Please contact us for more details.

School and Library Supply

We are happy to supply schools, libraries and community groups with books or art material, and can usually offer a discount on bulk orders up to 20%, especially if paid on delivery. We may also accept Purchase Orders.

Please contact us to discuss options. We are also very happy to provide lists of recommended books.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order a book from you?

Yes, please see our Book Ordering page.

Do you supply schools, libraries or community groups?

Yes we do. Again, please see our Book Ordering page.

Do you stock books by self-published authors?

We are happy to talk to self-published authors about their books which we may take on a sale or return basis for three months initially, with the option to return them if they remain unsold. Any books returned to the author, after the three month period, must be uplifted by the author or they can be posted back, at the author’s expense. The commission is 35% of the book’s retail price.

If we are unable to take a book please know that it’s nothing personal. We have limited display and storage space, so we need to believe your book has a good chance of selling in our shop before we stock it.

Is your shop easily accessible?

Yes, the shop is on the ground floor and suitable for all users. We apologise that we have no customer toilets within the premises.

Do you buy or accept donations of second-hand books?

Yes, we are delighted to receive donations of second-hand books as long as they are in reasonable condition and are of subject matters appropriate to our shop. We can also sell second-hand books on a 50% commission basis with retail prices agreed between both parties. As another option, we may buy second-hand books that are in good condition. Please contact us to discuss the best option for you.

Do you have Gaelic speaking members of staff?

Yes we do and we will be happy to help with any enquiries related to Gaelic titles that you are trying to source.
